Lansdowne Moody's Triumph in Hosting FFA Tractor Technician Event

Nov 28, 2023

At Lansdowne Moody Tractor Dealership, we don't just sell equipment; we invest in the growth of agriculture's next generation. Our recent endeavor, hosting the FFA Tractor Technician contest, exemplifies our commitment to nurturing young talent in the industry. In this blog post, we'll uncover the journey led by Kriste Babcock, a committed advocate for FFA, who spearheaded this remarkable event.

Kriste, deeply entrenched in the agricultural community, envisioned Lansdowne Moody as a catalyst for change in the tractor tech competition landscape. Recognizing the scarcity of invitational contests, she seized the opportunity to organize a fall event, strategically timed to give teams ample preparation for upcoming area competitions

Ensuring a seamless execution, Kriste capped registration at 15 teams for the inaugural event. Despite a last-minute withdrawal, 14 teams from 11 schools showcased their prowess in three challenging segments: component appraisal, a written exam, and a debugging challenge.

The debugging section posed a significant challenge for many teams, prompting Kriste and her team to introduce a creative solution – a thrilling speed round. This unexpected twist injected a new level of excitement, rekindling the confidence of teams that faced earlier setbacks. The generous support from Kubota, providing an array of items for participants, created a sense of camaraderie and enthusiasm among the students.

Kriste's collaborative approach, consulting with agricultural teachers, FFA committees, and the Livingston FFA chapter, showcased the strength of community bonds. The event, organized on the Judging Card platform, streamlined the registration process. The involvement of multiple stakeholders, including employees, local FFA chapters, university professors, and other FFA contacts, highlighted the united effort behind the success of the contest.

Eleven schools, ranging from seasoned participants to first-time contenders, enthusiastically participated. Schools like Shepherd High School and Bellville FFA, recognized for their proficiency in tractor tech contests, demonstrated their expertise. Shepherd High School's remarkable 5th-place achievement at the state level last year exemplifies the positive impact of early preparation and involvement in such events.

Kriste underscored the pivotal role tractor tech contests play in shaping the future of the agricultural industry. These competitions provide a platform for students of varied backgrounds to explore and excel, contributing to the development of future technicians and leaders. Lansdowne Moody's involvement reflects a commitment to nurturing the next generation of agriculturalists.

In her interview, Kriste shared her personal journey with FFA, from being a high school member to becoming deeply involved as a parent, volunteer, sponsor, and judge. Her passion for giving back to the FFA community and supporting its multifaceted initiatives is evident in her ongoing commitments, such as coaching, judging, and actively participating in livestock shows.

The success of Lansdowne Moody Tractor Dealership's first FFA Tractor Technician event reflects not only the commitment of the dealership but also the collaborative spirit of the agricultural community. Through such initiatives, we continue to inspire and empower the future leaders and technicians who will drive the agricultural industry forward. At Lansdowne Moody, we are proud to be a part of this journey, supporting the growth and success of the FFA and its members. Together, we cultivate a vibrant future for agriculture.
